Carole E. Johnson, PhD, AuD, is Director of the Hearing Evaluation, Rehabilitation, and Outcomes (HERO) Laboratory and professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders within the College of Allied Health at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She have written four textbooks, published 70 peer-reviewed articles, and made over 150 presentations at professional meetings. The HERO lab is currently conducting a three-year, clinical trial of the health-related quality of life benefits of entry-level, advanced digital hearing aids with unserved and underserved citizens in central Oklahoma (Project funded by the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology – Health Research Grant 16-118). A second area of endeavor is the prevention, diagnosis, and early intervention of “preclinical” (cochlear synaptopathy and “hidden hearing loss”) and slight-to-mild acquired sensorineural hearing losses in adults.
