After completing her ENT residency at Dalhousie University, Halifax,  Johnna MacCormick completed a pediatric fellowship and started working at CHEO (the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario) in Ottawa. She has continued to work there for the past 26 years. Her particular interests include hypernasality in speech, and newborn SNHL. She is the ENT lead for the province-wide genomic screening for permanent hearing loss risk factors, CMV Canada, and is or has worked on several boards in attempt to better the lives of children including the CHEO Board, Make a Wish and SEAC (Special Education Advisory Committee with the Ottawa Carlton District School Board).
