Melissa D. Newell, Au.D., Clinical Assistant Professor, has been a clinical instructor and clinical faculty member in the Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences department since August 2015.  She received her B.A. in Speech and Hearing Sciences in 1994 and an M.A. in Audiology in 1996, both from Indiana University.  Her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree was awarded from the University of Florida in 2005.  Dr. Newell holds a certificate of clinical competence in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, professional licensure from the State of Indiana, and is a First Steps Provider.  She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, currently serving as the faculty advisor for the Student Academy of Audiology (SAA) Purdue chapter.  She is the course instructor for “Vestibular Assessment and Rehabilitation”.

Previous work experience has been in a hospital atmosphere, providing diagnostic assessments and rehabilitation for all age ranges, including infants and geriatric patients.  She performed audiological care in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for many years, working with critically ill infants who were at high risk for developing hearing loss.  Dr. Newell’s experience includes advanced vestibular assessment and collaboration with rehabilitation providers.  She currently supervises and teaches first and second-year Au.D. students in the Purdue Audiology Clinic.
