Pre-Con B: Hands-On Workshop on Real Ear Verification

Speaker

This pre-conference hands-on workshop is designed to reinforce the foundational role of validated fitting formulas, objective verification, and patient‑centered counseling in best‑practice care. The session will emphasize that high‑quality treatment depends on consistently confirming prescribed targets and audibility goals, ensuring that hearing aids deliver the performance patients need. Participants will learn how to integrate verification throughout the patient journey, from the diagnostic appointment to fitting and follow‑up, using objective measures to establish speech audibility goals, verify device performance, and support meaningful, evidence‑based counseling.

Throughout the workshop, attendees will gain practical skills in implementing validated generic fitting formulas, confirming target match and speech audibility, and transforming verification results into clear, impactful counseling conversations that support adaptation, rehabilitation, and long‑term outcomes. Hands-on learning will provide structured practice with clinical procedures, RECD measurement, pre‑fit verification, and on‑ear fitting strategies. Additional instruction will focus on verifying modern hearing‑aid technologies, including directional microphones, noise reduction, and remote microphone systems. Case study challenges will further reinforce these concepts by allowing participants to apply verification techniques considering realistic clinical scenarios.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Implement validated generic fitting formulas accurately
  2. Objectively verify hearing aid performance and speech audibility
  3. Apply verification results to support effective, patient-centered counselling
  4. Perform key clinical procedures, including RECD measurement and pre-fit verification
  5. Evaluate and verify modern hearing aid technology features
