TA-3: Addressing Auditory Processing Deficits in Young Children and Children with Multiple Disabilities

This session will cover topics related to the early intervention of auditory processing deficits in young children. This includes methods for assessing auditory delays, understanding auditory developmental milestones, recognizing the need for early intervention, and methods for delivering early intervention for auditory processing deficits in young children. Topics will also include recognizing the role of auditory development in children with multiple disabilities and the need for providing early intervention for auditory processing deficits to optimize progress across the developmental spectrum.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the need for early intervention in young children with auditory processing deficits.
  • Describe methods for determining what listening deficits are being experienced in young children and children with multiple disabilities.
  • Explain ways to target listening deficits through therapeutic interactions with young children, children with multiple disabilities, and their families.
