Modern hearing aid verification across the lifespan includes more than just fitting to targets. Starting from best practices for the basics, I’ll discuss new development for achieving and measuring speech audibility in quiet, along with the background evidence for continued use of this as a best practice. However, we’ll also explore other uses of hearing aid analyzers and real ear measurement, including techniques for verifying and fitting advanced signal processors, streaming, and specialized hearing products. We will consider strategies that can use to create full support of listening needs. The role of patient-oriented techniques will be emphasized as a way to link together technical measurements with patient preferences.
Learning Objectives:
- Learners will be able to describe new advances in verification technology that improve ease of use, onscreen reporting, and/or newer test signals and targets.
- Learners will be able to describe at least two advantages of using headphones for real-time listening.
- Learners will be able to identify specific test strategies for specific hearing technologies including frequency lowering, bone conduction hearing aids, and streaming.
