WA-4: Current Perspectives on the Association of Hearing Loss and Falls

Criteria for cochlear implant (CI) candidacy have expanded to include individuals with single-sided deafness, or SSD. In this presentation, we will review the impact of SSD on hearing function and quality of life, what research and lived experience can tell us about the benefits and limitations of CI for SSD, factors that contribute to outcome with CI, current CI candidacy criteria, and the role of community audiologists in CI candidacy. The presentation will focus primarily on the adult population.
